ARMENIAN MASTER SILVERSMITHS

The present work pertains mainly to the Armenian silver-making of Van and its surrounding areas, as well as those silver-making traditions that the master craftsmen of Van helped flourish beyond the borders of Turkey following the events of 1915. Thus included are chapters on the history of Van as well as its culture, demographics, professions, and, chiefly, it crafts. Furthermore, for an appreciation of silver-making within the broader context of Armenian culture, sections are devoted to the history of the Armenian people, and, to a lesser degree, the traditions and developments of Armenian silver-making beyond Van.
